Aces and Eights video poker is a variant of Bonus Poker. The game was introduced last decade on Game King machines and at online casinos powered by RealTime Gaming. Unfortunately for fans of the game, it never really caught on, so it is nearly impossible to find at land-based casinos today.

One exception is at Circus Circus on the Las Vegas Strip. That is where the game is spread in half dollars with the best paytable. The game has a progressive and a bonus for making a sequential royal flush. This is the best video poker game on the Strip. It returns 100.25% before the progressive, according to VPFree2.com.
How to Play Aces and Eights Video Poker
Starting a hand of Aces and Eights video poker is easy; choose the denomination and bet five coins. This turns the royal flush payout into 800-1. On the Circus Circus games, it also activates the progressive jackpot. Betting 1-4 coins makes it so that a royal flush only returns 250-1. This increases the house edge by more than 1%. Wagering five coins is easy – simply click the max bet button and cards will then be dealt automatically.

- Four aces or eights: 80-1
- Four sevens: 50-1

- Full house: 8-1
- Flush: 5-1
- Straight: 4-1
- Three of a kind: 3-1
- Two pair: 2-1
- Pair of jacks or better: 1-1
It is easy to start a new hand. Simply click the deal button again to repeat the bet. The bet amount can be changed by clicking the bet one button for every coin you would like to wager. Click deal after the desired amount is displayed and cards will be dealt again. When you are ready to leave, click the cash out button on the screen.
Aces and Eights Strategy
Always keep the five dealt cards when you receive a full house, four of a kind, straight flush or royal flush. If dealt any other hand, follow the list below from top to bottom to determine which cards to hold. Keep a dealt flush or straight unless it includes four to a royal flush. In that case, hold the four royal cards and discard the odd one.

- Three of a kind
- Two pair
- Four to a straight flush
- Pair of jacks or better
- Three to a royal flush
- Pair of eights
- Four to a flush
- Ten, jack, queen and king
- Pair of twos through sevens and nines and tens
- Four to an open-ended straight
- Three to a straight flush with two cards jack or higher
- Jack, queen, king and ace
- Two suited cards jack and higher
- Three to any remaining straight flush
- Jack, queen and king
- Two suited cards jack and higher, keeping lowest two if one is an ace
- Suited ten with a jack or queen
- Bare ace
- Bare jack, queen or king
*If none of the above applies, discard all five cards and receive a new hand.
